+ 0 - 0 | § Fun in the sun

We've been staying home pretty much the last week, which is to be expected.  Kari's been a little less mobile that usual, but it looks like she's feeling much better lately.  This afternoon, we have Alex out with a couple of his friends over, and they're stomping around the inflatible pool of ours.  Everyone seems to be having fun, and it's been good to be outside.  Kari even got to take a walk around outside for a while yesterday without holding the baby!  What a novel concept!

We've really been appreciating all of the help that we've been getting from all of the grandparents.  They've made this experience really pleasant.  It's amazing how different this is compared to Alex's birth.  It's been much less stressful.  I suppose once Jack starts waking up more often, and getting a personality, this will become a harder, but I'm content to be enjoying this for the moment.

+ 0 - 0 | § A better night

Last night was much better than the previous night.  I think that we had Jack awake a bit more during the day, which made him a bit sleepier during the night.  Plus, it seems like we're getting the feeding thing squared away, so he's not quite as hungry.  Plus, he's recovered a bit more from his baby-boy-surgery, so that's probably bothering him less.  All in all, the whole family is feeling good today.  We took Jack to the doctor for his first checkup, and he passed with flying colors.  He weighed 8 lbs 2 ounces, which is what he weighed when he left the hospital, so he's already back on road to weight gain.  (All babies lose some weight during their first few days.)  Next up on the revolving door of visitors are Pappy Jack, Mammy Deb, and Grandma Gloria.

We're open to visits from everyone, as long as you contact us ahead of time.

+ 0 - 0 | § A Period of Adjustment

Hmm... so this is what everyone talks about with a newborn.  Kari and I are working on just a bit of sleep from last night.  Jack decided that after a day and a half of pretty much solid sleep that all he wanted to do was wake up and eat.  Thankfully, Grandma Judy was around to take care of Alex early in the morning when he woke up.  On the up side, I got to see him awake for much more than I had before.  He's an ornery little bugger, but a cute one.  Already, he's decided that he doesn't like sleeping on his back, but on his side instead.  That's supposedly a no-no, but at 4 in the morning, it's pretty easy to talk a parent into just about anything if the prospect of sleep is on the line.  Well, as the title says, this will be a period of adjustment for us all, figuring out just how we are going to handle this all.
