Today was Alex's very first dentist appointment. The day started out with the complete and utter coincidence of me finding that Alex had cut two new teeth (molars) recently. A third is soon to follow. In any case, Dan and I have been talking up the dentist all week, in the hopes that Alex would react well to at least one medical professional. Something worked. I took him to a nearby pediatric dentist that was recommended by the local mom's group...they had a whole play room in the waiting room, with a little house to play in, video games, and puzzle boards on the walls. Alex was amazingly calm the whole time. When we saw the dentist, he sat in the chair *all by himself* and let the dentist look at, count, polish, scrape, fluoride, and squirt his teeth without protesting. He even kept his mouth open for her. It was probably the least stressful appointment I've had with him in a long time. As a reward for his behavior, they gave him a bunch of stickers (I think he has five on his shirt), and a token to get a little toy from their machines near the receptionist. (They are like the candy machines you see as you enter a lot of stores.) He put his token in, and got not one, but two bouncy balls.
In other news, baby and I are doing just fine. I just hit 26 weeks and so far, we haven't had any more incidents like the one 10 days ago. Here's hoping we can continue this way for a while.
