So, to answer the latest comment...no, I didn't get away scot free. I woke up this morning with swollen glands, and a sore throat. In order to try to curb the progress of what I can only assume is strep, I made a doctor's appointment and was given some antibiotics to take, even though the strep test was negative. The good news, though, is that I'm not feeling too bad (yet?) and Alex has continued to improve. He's back to his old happy self now! Dan seems to be over what ailed him as well.+ 0 - 0 | § ¶Some relief at last!
Dan was back at work today, and Alex was almost back to himself again. He laughed today for the first time since Saturday, and in general, was much easier to be around. I guess the antibiotics are working! Lesson learned? If Alex is screaming uncontrollably, and has a runny nose, it's time to see the doctor. This time we waited two or three days, not knowing about the ear infection. It's funny how this cold (almost a year to the day from his open heart surgery) seemed almost more stressful to me than that surgery did. I think that the surgery was something I had no control over and followed months of the same thing, so I was sort of shell-shocked the entire time. This time, I was very much aware of how things were normally, and having Alex be that unhappy was really hard. Oh, well, enough psycho-babble for tonight...here's hoping for more big belly laughs from the little man!!

My fever broke last night, and by this afternoon, my throat started feeling a bit better. I was even able to eat something for dinner without flinching. Yay for modern medicine! Alex is still a bit cranky, but he's less cranky than yesterday, which isn't that hard to imagine, seeing as how he had to sit through three doctor's visits, and between the three of them, ran late by at least 2 hours, which, from what I gather, is about 24 hours in "toddler time". Kari is still attempting to regain her sanity and the use of her arms after having to carry Alex in her arms for about 3 hours yesterday. Apparently this was the only thing that would stop him from screeching, and apparently, this only worked while she was standing. If she sat down, the screeching began again.
We're just glad that everything seems to be back on the upswing again. Here's hoping that Kari doesn't get strep, seeing as how she doesn't take too kindly to most antibiotics.

...Dan has strep throat and Alex has an ear infection, possible accompanied by strep throat. They didn't test Alex for strep because the ear infection antibiotics should clear up both. Dan's fever got up to around 103 degrees, so he went to the doc, and Alex's surgeon recommended that we call his pediatrician about his fussiness, so here we are. As for me, after schlepping Alex and Dan around all day, I've started implementing my 3-step program for resetting the stress meter. Step 1: Bubble Bath. Done!! Step 2: Big bag of buttery popcorn. Step 3: Sleep!

Alex is sick again. He has a runny nose, an on-and-off fever, and has been absolutely miserable since about Saturday. We had an appointment this morning with Dr. Cohen, his pediatric surgeon, who said that Alex's g-tube will probably have to be closed manually. Unfortunately, this means surgery and an overnight hospital stay. Right now, if the hole doesn't close by then, it's scheduled for May 8th.
On top of all of that, Dan is now sick too. I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm about at my wit's end with all the gloom around the house.
