As it's generally pretty difficult to find food that keeps Alex interested, we've been attempting to give him random foods that he can deal with mechanically (i.e. won't choke him) but have different tastes. Because of that, we've found out that in general, he's got tastes that for a full grown person would be rather unhealthy. He likes to drink heavy cream straight from the carton, ketchup by the spoonful, of course you all know about his cheese puffs, and now ranch dressing licked from the outside of onion rings. A couple of days ago, he took some little pieces of french fries too, but had a bit of an issue with swallowing them. He's started to like drinking from a straw attached to a tupperware container thingie.I'm told that Alex really showed off for the physical therapist this morning, crawling through one of those play-tunnels several times. According to the PT, many kids require several visits just to reach in and grab a toy from the tunnel, but luckily, Kujo helped out by sitting down in the middle of the tunnel, enticing Alex to crawl in. Kari got on the other end, and got him to crawl to her.
The last few nights have been a little rough on Alex's stomach again. Either he's thrown up, or has been in rather serious diress from upset stomach. Judging from the food that he does eat by mouth, we're not entirely suprised that it not digesting easily. Don't be fooled though, he still gets the vast majority of his food by his tube, which is pediasure, sort of ensure for kids. The mouth food is really just for learning, with much less emphasis on nutrition, so we give him basically anything that will get him excited about eating. We have been doing things such as mixing some milk in with his cream, or mixing some jar food in with his ketchup with mixed results.
