Alex has been toying with the idea of crawling for about two weeks or so now. In the past three or four days, though, he's demonstrated to us that we definitely have to get off our betts and child-proof the house. He can now get 8-10 feet across a floor by himself and fairly quickly. His targets are usually the cats, me, electrical outlets, or some other "toy" that he shouldn't have his grubby little hands on. The funny thing is that he crawls on two hands, one knee, and one foot, so it ends up looking more like a crab walk or a scoot than a crawl. No matter what we call it, though, he's mobile!+ 0 - 0 | § ¶New Pictures!
I've added three new albums of pictures; one for our second week in Maine, one for random August pics, and one for Alex's birthday pics. Enjoy!http://thenortonzoo.com/gallery/album08

Well, Alex had his one year checkup at the doctor's today. He was weighed at 18 lbs, 12 oz, which is right along the curve that he's been following for his entire life thus far. (It's just below the 5th percentile in case anyone likes to look at growth charts.) He also got two immunizations, so that added to the crankiness that he's had all night and day so far. Speaking of cranky, I think our little man is cutting a second tooth. I see a little white spot under his gums right next to his first tooth, and he's been really restless at night, and upset a lot. The first tooth didn't cause this much grief. Oh, well, his OT said that teething can be a real bear for kids with his esophagus defect. They just don't use their mouths like normal kids, so it takes longer for teeth to come out.Speaking of therapists, Alex's PT has taken another job, so Tuesday (Alex's b-day) was her last day. We'll be getting a new one soon, but we'll certainly miss Janice. Alex liked her, and she was able to get him to do what she wanted (most of the time).
Everything else, though, is going well. Alex is continuing to get stronger. He's started to crawl a couple of feet at a time, mostly to get at the cats who are really confused because they used to be able to lay down out of his reach. His eating is touch and go. He drank 6 ounces of juice from a bottle on Sunday (a new record), but hasn't wanted anything since then. (Probably the tooth.)
Alex's birthday party was a smashing success. We had a great time with everyone and Alex enjoyed watching the other kids play, and meeting his zipper club buddy, Nicky. A few people got to see him for the first time, and we even got to make a very bad beer commercial. (You'll see what I mean when I post the pictures.) Thanks to everyone who joined us!
