Someday Dan and I will have to post a picture of our calendar. We have had appointments of one sort or another almost every day this month. This week was no exception. My last day at work was on Tuesday. It's nice now not to have that to worry about, but at the same time, I'm sorry to have to leave them. It's all for the best though.Alex saw the neonatologist yesterday, that is, one of the docs that took care of him in the NICU. The only thing that came out of that appointment was another appointment, this time with the feeding clinic. WE've been trying to get him an appt. with that group for a while, but each doc we went to would refer us to another doc, who then would say that it wasn't his job. So, on Tuesday of next week, we'll hopefully start a more concerted effort at feeding Alex by mouth.
Today's appointment was with the cardiologist. Alex has officially been scheduled for his cardiac catheterization and sugery, on March 22nd and 23rd, respectively. The docs believe that it would be best to do the surgery then, instead of a month or two later, mainly to accomodate our move to NY. The cath will be to look at Alex's heart to see better what they would have to do during the surgery, and the surgery will hopefully be the repair of his hole (VSD) and to open up the pulmonary artery in some way. This is a major open heart surgery, and if all goes well, Alex will spend about a week in Hershey afterwards. It's all very scary, yet we'll be happy when it's over. Alex will have more normal oxygen saturations, and should be healthier overall.
In other news, his 6th dilation is tomorrow. It's been two weeks since the last one (the longest stretch between them in a while), and Alex has been doing very well. He hasn't yet needed suction, which is pretty unexpected for us. They'll probably want to stretch the time between dilations to three weeks next time, and I think that we may let them. At least we're making some progress...
Well, if I forgot anything, I'll post again later. With all of these appointments, things change pretty quickly and it's hard to keep up sometimes.
