Here is another instance where no news is good news. Alex is doing very well these days. He had a lot of doctor's appointments last week, without much change resulting from them. The cardiologists said that we are going to be in a wait and watch pattern for a while, possible doing a cardiac catheterization sometime in March to see what his heart looks like from the inside. Because we're planning to move in May, they may do his surgery in April to avoid having to transfer his care to another area. Other than that, they took him off of two of his meds, and told us that he may need to be on oxygen at home if his oxygen saturations get below about 70%. We'll see them again in a month to evaluate everything again.
We also met with a group called Early Intervention. It is a state/federal program intended to make sure that kids with issues as children catch up as early as possible. They look at things like cognition and motor development, and will do an evaluation of Alex in the next month or so to see where he is compared to "normal" kids his age.
This coming week brings more doctor's appointments. He has to have bloodwork done on Monday, has a dilation scheduled for Tuesday, and will see the pediatrician on Friday (for a weight check and an immunization). Hopefully, we'll get a better idea of what to do with his oral feeding on Friday, but until then, Dan and I have been giving him 2-3 mLs of milk just to give him the taste. He seems to like it...and will even take it from the nipple of a bottle. It's pretty exciting to see him taking small bits and liking it. Anyway, more to come on that as we meet with the pediatrician and GI docs in early Feb. Gee, I can't wait to have to find all new docs in NY!

Thank goodness for health insurance!! We just got an explanation of benefits form for Alex's two hospital stays. He's now up to $400,000 in medical bills, and we aren't even close to done yet. Ouch. I don't even know what to say about that...
