It looks like Kari, Alex, and I will be moving to the Niskayuna, NY (outside Albany) area in May, as I have accepted a position working for GE Central Research and Development. I'll still be working on combustion related topics, but the size will be changing from micro-scale devices to large scale turbines. I can't say exactly what I'll be working on, mostly because I don't know, but also because of privacy issues, but I think that I'll be working to reduce pollution and improve performance from locomotive engines, and perhaps some other interesting stuff. What this means is that I now have a ticking clock, saying that I must have my PhD by May 16th, as they say that I can't start work without it. That means I'll have to get my butt in gear.

We wanted to wish everyone a very happy holiday season! We never did get around to sending out the Christmas cards.... We hope that everyone is happy and healthy and wish you a very prosperous new year!
Thnigs here are good these days. When we first brought Alex home, we needed to suction his spit out every half hour or so. After his first dilation (the two-night hospital stay before Christmas), the need for that all but stopped. Now, he's had his second dilation, and he is doing very well. The second time in the OR went as planned. The surgeon said that he was able to increase the diameter of Alex's esophagus to the next size, and plans to do another dilation in two weeks. After that, he'll have another leak test to see if there has been any improvement.
Other than that, Alex is up to 9 lbs, 6 oz, and is sleeping peacefully on Dad's lap right now. Happy New Year!

Sorry for the downtime that the blog suffered, but apparently our web hosting supplier had a bit of a SNAFU, and we lost the web site and email for a few days. I guess that'll teach us to use the absolute cheapest provider that we could find, once again showing that you get what you pay for.Everything has been hunky dorey the last few days, with very few problems. Kari, Alex and I had a good calm christmas, relaxing at home. Mark Northrop visited us this afternoon, and we had a good time watching a bad movie, and showing off all the tricks that Alex can do.
