Alex has been doing fairly well these past couple of days. It's just more of the same...sleeping, eating, suctioning, etc. We're once again just waiting for his surgery to take place.
Thanks to everyone for their gifts and prayers!!

Well, as Kari posted earlier, the gap-o-gram showed today that the gap is basically the same as it was three weeks ago. So, the surgery is off for tomorrow. They are planning on redoing the gap-o-gram in two weeks, which means that in all likelyhood, Alex is going to be there for another month. They're going to have to do stretching of his esophagus two times a day for the next couple of weeks. This stretching is painful and traumatic and all-around unpleasant.

The gap-o-gram was done this morning and showed that his esophagus hadn't really grown since the last one, so the surgery has been cancelled. They'll repeat the test in another two weeks, during which Alex will continue to stay at Hershey.

Alex was requiring alot of oxygen today, and it sounded like he was having trouble breathing. They thought that it might be pneumonia, so they did an x-ray of his lungs. Initially it looked like it might actually be pneumonia, but they realized that he was just twisted a little bit, and things were out of shape. They did another x-ray, and everything looked fine, so no pneumonia. They still haven't done the gap-o-gram yet, but it looks like that will happen tomorrow. It better happen tomorrow, because the surgery is scheduled for Friday. I guess we'll just have to be pushy all day tomorrow to make sure that this happens.

The gap-o-gram still hasn't been done. I went to the hospital early today so that I could be there during the test, but the surgeons apparently never told Radiology that a test was needed. Now they are telling me that thye'll do it on Thursday. They are still planning to do the surgery on Friday if everything goes well, though. So we continue to wait...and wait and wait and wait....
Alex is doing fairly well this week. He had a little cold last week and during the weekend, but he seems to be feeling better now. One of the nurses seems to have a crush on him...she keeps telling me about all the adorable little things he does. Makes me proud! Of course, I agree with her, but I guess there wasn't any question about that. Perhaps we'll soon be able to see his face without the tubes.
+ 0 - 0 | § ¶Schedule unknown
In case everyone is looking for the results of the next gap-o-gram today, we found out yesterday that the schedule may not be as set as we thought. The test may not take place until tomorrow or Wednesday, so if I don't post results today, don't worry. We'll post them as soon as we have them. (Since Alex is an inpatient, they don't really schedule tests and procedures...they just do them when everyone is available to do so.)
